Dark Chocolate Orange Brownie Balls

January 7, 2011

Since it’s Sugar-Free Week, I’m not eating any sugar. I was craving a snack but I wanted it to be sweet!

What to do, what to do?

Make Alex’s Chocolate Mint Balls!

I followed her recipe exactly and they came out amazing! You know how much I love chocolate and mint!

Then I started thinking of a new concoction! I was all out of dates, but I had a whole bag of dried apricots!

Dark Chocolate Orange Brownie Balls

3/4 cup almonds

10 dried apricots

1/3 cup cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon orange extract

1. Add all ingredients in your food processor, in order listed. Process until dough forms, shape into balls. Store in plastic baggies and refrigerate. They’re better cold!

These are so fudgey and delicious, trust me on these! They will blow your mind! If you don’t have orange extract, you might be able to get away with vanilla.

They’re perfect for satisfying my 3 o’ clock hunger woes! I always just have one and it’s enough! They’re delicious!

That sounds so good! It’s funny how you mention that they’re better cold, I find chocolaty things usually do taste better cold 🙂 Great bellies think alike 😛

Yum! I think I’ll make these with dried plums. I’m not a huge fan of them plain, so a little chocolate would be perfect 🙂

Unfortatly I have NEVER liked the taste of mint and fruity stuff together!

    • January 8, 2011 9:25 pm

I don’t like mint and fruity stuff together either, but the cocoa powder totally masks the flavor of the dates!

My photo is probably a bit misleading, but you make these with dried apricots, I don’t think oranges would work! Just wanted to clear that up! Thanks for the sweet comment! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to make Larabar-type things in the food processor. I’m thinking either Carrot Cake or Banana Bread. Which one would you rather see?

    • January 8, 2011 9:29 pm

I’ve actually made both Carrot Cake and Banana Bread Larabars! The banana ones are difficult because you have to dehydrate the banana slices in the oven for a looooong time and I don’t like the taste of cooked bananas too much! But I made CleanTeenKelsey’s Carrot Cake ones and they are delicious!

Raw snacks are just the way to go. I made flax-date balls the other day and they’re addicting. Your ideas look great too!

Love the idea of serving them cold – as much as I like warm/room-temperature desserts, I’m a huge fan of the cold/sweet combo 🙂

Good call with the extract – definitely helps the flavor!
