Sugar-Free Week Is Over!

January 11, 2011

Good afternoon!

Sugar-Free week is officially over…phew! I’m so glad I did it! I’ve never done anything like that and actually stuck to it!

Here’s a recap of Sugar-Free Week:

I missed my beloved Chobani with the Fruit On The Bottom, but it has lots of evaporated cane juice! So instead I had plain greek yogurt with my own berries and other toppings!

Toppings galore: frozen blueberries, raw oats, flax meal and peanut butter! I think from here on out I’ll just buy plain greek yogurt, I mean, why would you buy it already flavored when you can do it yourself!

Yes, you  can make sugar-free cookies that taste good! Guess what? Only bananas and applesauce to sweeten them.

I used the recipe on Angela’s blog for Banana Apricot Oatmeal Cookies only I used applesauce for the maple syrup!

They were really good for being sugar-free! Even my mom and dad thought so!

Banana Bread has been a favorite of mine ever since I was a little kid. I’ve never made it without butter and sugar before, though!  I used Kathleen’s recipe and I was so thrilled with how nice it came out! I prefer walnuts in my banana bread so that’s the only thing I changed!

My family is used to more sugary banana bread, so they ate theirs with honey, but not me! I loved it just the way it was! I’ll never use another banana bread recipe again!

**edited to add:

I have battled with acne ever since I was 12. My skin completely cleared up last week! I’m thinking it was a mixture of reduced amount of gluten (I had to limit myself to only sugar-free breads), sugar and I know I ate more fruits and vegetables since there was nothing else to eat!

While I don’t think I’ll ever go 100% Sugar-Free, I am going to be avoiding things like evaporated cane juice, honey, brown rice syrup and maple syrup. It’s a more natural sugar, yes, but it’s still sugar!

Instead of 100% Sugar-Free, I think I’ll be 97%! 🙂

Sugar-free week was really fun, actually! It forced me to be more creative in the kitchen, and I can tell that you had the same experience 😛 I’m going to check out the banana bread recipe right now, it looks yummy! And just like you, I realized that I’ll never be 100% sugar-free but I’m definitely cutting back on the unnecessary sugars!

Hooray, congrats for completing your sugar-free week!! That is so awesome. I know what you mean about really not needing added sugar. I don’t eat much greek yogurt anymore, but when I do it is ALWAYS plain. No sugary stuff for me.

How cool that you tried Kathleen’s recipe! It’s so yummy. She made the vegan version one time and gave it to my mom, so I got to try it. It was amazing. 🙂

Congrats on your sugar free week. I find with myself that when I eat lots and lots of fruits and vegetables, my skin is clearer too.

I buy plain yogurt too. Plain has so much potential — I love discovering those “treasures” possible with it. 🙂

You are fabulous. I love all your sugar free recipes. I always buy plain yogurt and then add different things to it. So much more yummy that way.

    Congrats!
I follow a mostly added sugar free diet just because I love the way it makes me feel! Every once in a while my waffles just gotta have some maple syrup though 😉

  18. January 11, 2011 9:38 pm

Wow, good to know the sugar-free diet helped your acne!! I know that was a major cause of mine as well. Glad you made it through!

CONGRATS ON SUGAR-FREE WEEK! I love topping my plain Greek yogurt with blueberries too. It’s the perfect way to get some natural sweetness.

I need to try having at least a sugar free DAY sometime. I’m somewhat addicted to sweet things but I also like eating healthy so I’ve been trying to cut back

Hahahaha – 97% sugar free? Haha.
Anyway – those eats are definitely not boring or un-appealing. I guess going sugar-free isn’t so bad, after all!
I some acne issues too, but I already consume very little sugar. I’m not sure if that would help me… but thanks for sharing, love 🙂
Oh, and btw – you won’t refuse to eat baked goods/yummy desserts in restaurants forever, will you?
“Life’s too short, eat dessert first”
Haha. Who am I to tell you that – it’s been 2 years since I last ate chocolate, or any sweets for that matter. Anyway…
Hope you’re having a great week, girl!
    xoxo
