Rollin Oats

June 2, 2011

I haven’t been doing my tri-weekly runs as consistently because I’ve been having knee pain. My left knee hurts after a run, but it never hurts while I’m running, which is weird.

The pain wasn’t so bad yesterday, so I had a cookie dough protein ball a la Amanda,

put on my  knee brace (that I hate using, but it really helps) and went out.

I waited until 8am to go, so it was already really hot and sunny out. Running is even harder when the sun is blaring in your face and it’s 90 degrees out! I’m sorry, Florida, but I don’t appreciate your weather.

I didn’t have a set mileage I wanted to go, I just wanted to do as much as I could – without dying.

I only had 2.16 miles in me. But that’s okay. That’s actually the farthest run I’ve ever done off a treadmill.

I’m really slow, but I have plenty of time to get faster! I’m planning on a 5k soon, in a month or so and I want to do it in less than 40 minutes.

***

Can we talk about Amanda’s cookie dough balls for a sec?

I am addicted.

I did mine a little different from her recipe. I used chocolate whey protein powder, a mix of almonds, cashews and peanuts, an extra date and bits of Baker’s unsweetened chocolate.

I’ve made a lot of fudge babies and Lara bar-type things, but these are the best yet! Again, I am addicted.

***

So far today I’ve eaten a cookie dough protein ball,

mint chocolate chip protein icecream,

(1 cup milk, 1 1/2 scoops chocolate protein powder, spinach, a drop of mint extract, blended together then freeze in ice cube tray, then blend frozen cubes and it tastes just like mint chocolate chip icecream!)

and peanut butter and jelly oatmeal.

I haven’t had good ole oatmeal in a while. This was delicious.

Polaner’s raspberry jelly is so good! And this morning I made an almond, cashew, peanut butter and it is amazing.

I love love love raw cookie dough, but I know I shouldn’t eat it because of the raw eggs! I’ll definitely have to try out the cookie dough balls – I just need to go buy some dates!

I hope you knee feels better soon. You and my bestie should both be my bestie and run together. Does that make sense. Her goal is to run hers under 40 minutes too.

That cookie balls look really good. I’m going to have to look into them.

I know you won’t like to hear this, but please take a break from running. You may be developing Runner’s Knee. Iwent through the same thing and while it never hurt while running (a common symptom), it’s really painful when just walking around. I had to wear a brace like you and eventually even crutches because I didn’t stop running since it didn’t hurt to do so. But honestly, it’s a serious injury and took my 2 years to finally get over it since I never rested when it first showed up. Take it easy now and thank yourself later!!

Thanks Mary! I should have gone running today, but instead took a break. I wonder what else I should be doing to help it heal? Will it heal on it’s own? I had this same problem last year when I took up running and eventually just stopped altogether.

Amanda’s protein balls look amazing! Bite sized and perfect for snackage 😀 Hope your knee heals up quick 🙂

Hey girlie! Good job on your run! I’m a firm believer that sometimes the “see what I got in me” approach is the best way to go, especially if you’re dealing with some kind of pain. I hope your knee feels better soon!

And glad you liked the cookie dough 😀 I’m gonna have to try it with chocolate protein powder some day…

Those protein cookie dough balls look soooo good! If you told me they were straight up cookie dough I probably would have believed you.
Definitely sign up for a 5k. They’re so much fun, and I know you will achieve your goal! The race bug is contagious… once you start you might not be able to stop signing up for them.

I am definitely going to try that ice cream!! I’m assuming it would still work with almond milk. Now I just have to find mint extract, I wonder if I can get that at my local grocery store or if I’ll have to go to WF…?

  26. June 3, 2011 1:07 pm

Great job on that run girl!! Speed is something that is acquired over time, so don’t be hard on yourself!

  27. June 3, 2011 1:23 pm

mmmmm, pb&j oatmeal is always my favourite! But those cookie dough balls look to die for!

  28. June 3, 2011 4:06 pm

Making the smoothie, freezing it, then re-blending sounds like the best idea ever! I’ve never thought of that. And the cookie dough balls look awesome.

  29. June 3, 2011 6:01 pm

I don’t want to TALK about those cookie dough balls, I want to EAT them 😛 lol

You are actually doing great on your running! No need to push yourself to hard or you will just get injured. You should for sure sign up for a 5k!!
Oh, and I totally agree, running is so hard in the heat! I’ll wake up at 6 so I can eat breakfast and get a run out at 7 because after 9 the heat takes over!

  30. June 3, 2011 10:39 pm

Good for you for going on a run! Sorry to hear about your knee. I used to wear a knee brace too and I think it really helped!
