Chobani Monster And Socca

March 1, 2011

Hey guys! So thank you all for entering my very first giveaway! I am beyond excited to announce the winner!

By the Random.org generator, the winner of The Real Food Diet Cookbook is….

Sophia! Congratulations, girl! I will be emailing you!

***

Well, I am pretty bogged down with school work, but here are some of my recent eats!

oatmeal stovetop with frozen bluebs and macadamia nut butter!! so dreamy

Fitnessista's cookie dough cereal, delish!

dark chocolate chips! I've been eating them non stop. Supposedly this is one serving, pssh yeah right

collard green wrap! immediately after the photo I picked it up and it completely fell apart! ahh well, it still tasted delicious!

And check this out…

It’s a dream come true! Chobani is like the SWEETEST EVER and sent me some delicious flavors that I had never tried!

what, you don't eat sweet potato fries and lemon greek yogurt and call it a meal?

The Black Cherry and Lemon flavors are phenomenal! Lemon tastes like a cream pie!

Here’s a funny story. My mom is a Chobani MONSTER.

I put all the Chobani samples in the fridge and over the last few days they’ve been disappearing! This morning they were ALL gone and sadly, I still have only tried the Black Cherry and Lemon flavors!

I’m pretty sure my mom LOVED the flavors that I didn’t get to try!  Maybe I should have her write a review of all the flavors for you guys!  😉

But still, a big THANK YOU to Chobani for being so generous. I think my mom is convinced enough that she will start buying it more often!

Hey, hey! Guess what? I made chickpea/garbanzo bean flour!! (I’m kind of a DIYer)

I would reccomend doing this when NOBODY else is home….it makes an absolute racket in the food processor and you better have a Vitamix or something equally strong! All you do is process the dried chickpeas until they’re fine like flour! Super easy!

Of course I made some SOCCA!

socca topped with bell pepper, mushroom, spinach, onion, tomato sauce and shredded cheese

Socca is a flatbread that is made with chickpea flour and water! It’s so good for you and is absolutely delicious!

I used mine as a pizza “crust”!

Socca

– 1 cup chickpea flour

– 1 cup water

– 1 Tbsp. olive or grapeseed oil

– dash of salt

Preheat oven to 400°F. Combine all ingredients and pour into a greased9-inch round pan. Bake for 45 minutes!

I also tried cooking it in a skillet, like a giant pancake-type thing. But baked is soo much better! Trust me.

Instead of cooking with olive oil, I recommend grapeseed oil.

Unlike olive oil, grapeseeed oil has a high smoke point which means it is healthier and cleaner for cooking and baking. When olive oil reaches 200°F (which isn’t very high for cooking), it starts to burn and lose all of it’s nutritional properties.  I’ve been sauteeing my veggies in grapeseed oil and it is delicious!

this is what I wore to portrait modeling today

This may sound kind of ridiculous, (and I’m not exactly comfortable talking about it)…but I’m a portrait model.

I have to sit still for long periods of time while professional artists paint my picture.

It’s not easy, my back and neck always get sore and tight after sitting in the same position for soo long! Don’t worry, they do give me breaks every 30 minutes!!

But it is a very cool job. Today there were 4 artists painting me and they all had a totally different take on the pose. It’s so fascinating, they are soo talented and amazing.

Have you tried socca? Do you say chickpeas or garbanzo beans?

Are you a do-it-yourself kind of person like I am?

What’s a cool/interesting/rare job that you have had?

How lucky of you to be visited by the Chobani fairy! Geez..that’s a whole lotta yogurt. 😛 As for the job thing, I haven’t held many..but I guess the most “unique” opportunity was to counselor at a summer camp for three years, teaching the campers horseback riding skills. That was a lot of fun. 🙂

    • March 3, 2011 9:13 am

Ohh, fun! My mom thinks it would be a good idea to work as a camp counselor over the summer.

  2. March 1, 2011 7:22 pm

That job sounds super fun! =D
I’ll have to try and make my own chickpea flour, too……we don’t have it here AND I’m sort of a DIY-er as well!

  3. March 1, 2011 7:29 pm

So jealous of all that Chobani! I am dying to try the lemon- I can’t find it anywhere!

    Your pizza looks amazing!

My mom is a bit of a yogurt monster too and would’ve done the same! Lol.

When I make collard rolls I have to roll them really tight and then once I bite in I can’t really let go. Haha – still really yummy though! Have you tried nori – it’s my new favorite for making rolls with. I’m addicted!

    • March 2, 2011 9:27 am

I have never heard of nori! I just Googled it and it’s like Japanese seaweed! I bet it’s perfect for wraps!

  5. March 1, 2011 7:41 pm

So much Chobani!! I’ve never tried that brand before, I’ve only tried Fage. And omg where did you get that Macadamia nut butter? Bought or made? I am very jealous right now 🙂

  6. March 1, 2011 8:16 pm

Totally jealous of all that greek yogurt 🙂 I have garbanzo bean flour and now i just need to make some soccca! I keep forgetting about it..crazy, huh?

  7. March 1, 2011 8:27 pm

BAHAHA. I’m so jealous of your mom and all her Chobani eating. I love Chobani yogurt and am constantly eating it.

I love your wrap though-that looks so nom! (and your skirt!).

  8. March 1, 2011 8:51 pm

OMG!!! I’m so excited!!!!!! And congrats on getting all that Chobani. That’s so awesome!!!

  9. March 1, 2011 9:40 pm

I just got my garbanzo bean flour today! Can’t wait to make socca!

  10. March 1, 2011 9:54 pm

Oh my gosh I am SO very jealous of your life right now!! I LOVE CHOBANIIIIIII!!! and ANY greek yogurt at that actually!

Ps. all your food looked delish today! Can I hire you as my personal chef 🙂

    • March 3, 2011 9:14 am

Haha, thanks! I love Chobani too! I would LOVE to be a personal chef 😉

  11. March 1, 2011 9:54 pm

Ahhh I wish you posted this earlier! I just bought chickpea flour. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to use it fast so I can try making it myself!
That’s so cool how you do portrait modeling! I’ve never had a job before, but that sounds way better than working behind a counter or something.

So jealous of the chobs. My mom is a newly converted chobani addict too! I really want to try the mango.

    • March 3, 2011 9:14 am

Oh, haha, sorry!! Well, now at least you know you can make it!

  12. March 1, 2011 10:13 pm

You just reminded me that I meant to buy chickpea flour at the store today but I totally forgot! 😛 Your socca pizza looks seriously amazing.

  13. March 1, 2011 10:17 pm

that’s SOO cool that you’re a portrait model!! Its like getting to see a painting of yourself (or a LOT of paintings of yourself) for free! Are the paintings usually pretty accurate or are they more obscure representations of reality?

  14. March 1, 2011 10:18 pm

    Collard wrap are amazing!
I call them garbanzo beans and chickpeas, it just depends 🙂

  15. March 1, 2011 10:37 pm

Eee! That box of Chobani looks like the grandest thing ever! It’s like Christmas!

  16. March 1, 2011 10:46 pm

I love socca! I’m so jealous that Sophia won, she’s my sis so I get to use the giftt too! haha 🙂

  17. March 1, 2011 10:55 pm

You know, I have some bags of chickpeas in my pantry! I know what’s going to happen to them!!! Chickpea flour, here.I.come! 😀

I love to do things myself. Like grind my own wheat straight from the kernel, make my own soy milk straight from the soy beans; and now I really want to make some chickpea flour straight from the chickpeas! 😉

Wow, your mom must have really loved those Chobani’s! 🙂

It is so cool that you are a portrait model, Gorgeous!

    Love you!
    xoxo

When’s your next Sugar Free Week?

    • March 3, 2011 9:18 am

Good question! I just figured I wouldn’t do one, since now I barely eat any sugar anyway!

  19. March 1, 2011 11:03 pm

I want to try socca so badly! I really need to get to it and make something tasty. Your recipe looks fabulous 🙂 And those chocolate chips are so divine. Oh my lanta!

  20. March 1, 2011 11:15 pm

You are so skinny! Not as a bad thing though! As long as its healthy!! 🙂

    That socca looks amazing!

I would LOVE to try cherry chobani. Chobano is the best yooogurt ever.

  21. March 1, 2011 11:40 pm

So cool that you are a portrait model!!! I have always thought about doing that! 🙂

I love that you made your own chickpea flour. I don’t think I’m brave enough to try to make it in my processor!

And collard wraps are the bomb diggity!! 😀

  22. March 2, 2011 6:20 am

I’ve never heard of socca, this sounds really good! But the dried chickpeas are pre-boilt and then dried right? (man, really exposing my lack of socca-knowledge here…)
    Portrait modelling sounds really cool!
Love your blog, thanks for stopping by mine the other day 🙂

    • March 2, 2011 10:18 am

Actually I don’t know. I guess they probably are, but actually I don’t know!

  23. March 2, 2011 6:31 am

the black cherry kind looks sooooo good!

  24. March 2, 2011 7:13 am

MM I cant wait for my chobani!!! I’m sure it was a lot cheaper to make your garbanzo flour then buy it! I actually haven’t seen it anywhere so maybe I should do the same thing.
I love that you are a portrait model! I am a promotional model but that doesn’t sound nearly as interesting as yours!

    • March 2, 2011 9:43 am

Yes, dried chickpeas are DIRT CHEAP so it’s totally cheaper to grind your own than to buy a little bag of Bob’s Red Mill!

SOCCA ROCKS … i cant believe you made your own chickpea flour… you are a DIYer!! i rmbr your greek yogurt! awesome girl!

  26. March 2, 2011 9:07 am

I loooove those chocolate chips! And you’re right – the serving sizes for those chips are way too small! 😉 And so jealous of all your Chobani! My dad would be too – he loves that yogurt! 🙂

I say chickpeas!! I haven’t tried socca yet, but I’ve seen it so much on blogs lately that I just MUST try it!

I think it’s really cool that you do portrait modeling!! My most interesting job was to clean horse stalls at a barn. It was actually a lot of fun! I often wish I was still doing it 😀

  27. March 2, 2011 10:20 am

I loooove chobani! And it was on sale this week, so I stocked up 😉

And those chocolate chips are my favvvv.

Portrait modeling sounds fun! What a cool job!

How cool that you’re a portrait model! I LOVE the outfit you chose! So cute! And I’m glad you get breaks every 30 minutes, but still… I can imagine the aches you’d get from being so still!

  29. March 2, 2011 11:35 am

THAT is a cool job, Kayla!

I’m so jealous of your Chobani love! I want it! right now. and don’t feel weird for having a meal of yog and sweet potato fries. you’re totally normal.

and by normal, I mean just like me. you can decide if that’s good or not. 😉

  30. March 2, 2011 2:04 pm

    Cookie dough oatmeal, wow!
I just had really good sweet potato fries today with marshmallow dipping cream!

  31. March 2, 2011 2:35 pm

I think my most unique job would be the harp gigs I get!
And I’m NOT a DIYer. Haven’t tried chickpea flour yet!

  33. March 2, 2011 4:15 pm

OMG!!! That is so flippin’ cool that you’re a portrait model!! I didn’t even realize they hired kids to do that! That socca pizza looks absolutely amazing…I still need to try it! I do have one question though, is 1 cup flour equal to like…2 cups raw chickpeas? I’m just wondering how that pizza is nutrition-wise and all;) OMG totally LOVE the chocolate chip addiction!! 16 chips is so NOT a serving…I go through at least one bag (alone!) every single week!! You could say I’m obsessed… 🙂

    • March 2, 2011 4:32 pm

Olivia, The socca pizza serves 1-3 people, I didn’t eat the whole thing! 1 cup chickpea flour is equal to 1 cup plus a little more of dried chickpeas! My mom and I (mostly me, I just include her to make myself feel better, haha) have been eating the chocolate chips and they’re already gone after just 5 days!

  34. March 2, 2011 4:37 pm

hehe! I can tell when my mom likes something when it’s gone all of a sudden! 😛 that’s so cool that you’re a portrait model! so interesting indeed. Hmmm I don’t know if YOU’d think it’s cool, but I worked at a korean/french pastry shop called “paris baguette” and they have hot out of the oven pastries and breads every few hours! LIKE, IT’S INTENSELY FRESH and good. This was like 4 years ago. my how time flies! And I used to eat 6 pastries in one sitting. haha

  35. March 2, 2011 4:43 pm

That oatmeal looks so good! I would have blended the blueberries in with the macadamia butter. Purple oatmeal, how FUN =)
My serving size of dark chocolate is… well let’s be real here I have no serving size. It’s however much I want. I’m such a chocoholic.
THANK YOU for explaining what socca is! I have seen a wave of bloggers posting their homemade socca and I had no idea what it was until now! Kind of like a cake version of hummus… sounds delish!!
An interesting job I’ve had is an undercover alcohol agent. I went into liquor stores, convenient stores, gas stations, etc. with an undercover cop and tried to buy alcohol with my legit 19-yr-old ID. If they sold it to me, they got a court date and the business got a fine. I felt kind of bad, but I’m workin’ my way through college and it was $50 for 2-3 hours worth of easy work… plus free dinner!

BTdubs, I’m throwing you on my non-vegan blogroll! =)
    Allie

    • March 3, 2011 9:12 am

Haha, what a COOL job!! Great way to make money, too!

Yeah, it is kind of like a “cake” version of hummus!

  36. March 2, 2011 5:06 pm

oh wow!! Getting product samples looks like so much fun!! Do you have to contact the company? I’d love to get to tell people what I think about things, haha
I am definitely a DIY-er, I love to make things from scratch and it is often more fun that way : )
Socca looks so good!! I’m going to have to try the DIY chickpea flour thing and then make myself up a yummy pizza

    • March 3, 2011 9:10 am

Yes, I email companies and give them a link to my blog, asking for samples! 🙂

  37. March 2, 2011 5:08 pm

I would love to be a portrait model! It would be fun to have my picture painted/drawn. 🙂 The most interesting job I’ve had.. was.. working on my dads prawn boat. Lol! Not very glamorous.

  38. March 2, 2011 7:16 pm

I’ve never even heard of socca but I am definitely trying it, the health stats are hard to beat!

  39. March 2, 2011 8:18 pm

I feel like a giant nerd now! I was complaining that I couldn’t find garbanzo powder in the supermarket today and looked all over for it! Hellooo — you can just make it!? haha thanks for the wake-up call Kayla! I can’t wait to try this!

    mwah!

  40. March 2, 2011 9:20 pm

Not going to lie, I’m totally jealous of Sophia. Congrats girl!
Yum, those chocolate chips make me want to go grab a handful downstairs. I love how legitly huge the Ghirardelli ones are! I need to start buying that kind.
And k can I just tell you how awesome I think your job is? Seriously that’s the coolest thing. You shouldn’t feel embarrassed or uncomfortable about it in the least bit! How did you sign up to do something that cool?
I’ve personally never had a cool or exciting job. I’m boring I know. I might start sewing wedding dresses though! Though that’s probably not too exciting for anyone else but me.. haha
I’ve never tried chickpeas outside of eating hummus, can you believe that? That socca looks delicious though, I definitely want to try it sometime.

    • March 3, 2011 9:04 am

I know! When I opened the bag I was like…These things are HUGE! …I like it 🙂

It’s kind of funny how we found the job. My mom loves to surf Craigslist and there was an ad looking for portrait models. The 2 painters are professional and studied in Finland. But now they have a son and live here. They sell their paintings in galleries all over the world, it’s really cool.

You SHOULD sew wedding dresses, how cool would that be? You’d be great!

I HAVE to get around to trying socca soon….it sounds so yummy!

    • March 3, 2011 9:09 am

Ooh, thanks for the yogurt tip!

And that’s so cool about the acting, Kaila!

  42. March 2, 2011 10:42 pm

Um, yum!! That socca pizza looks amazing! I just tried socca tonight for the very first time, in a skillet, will def have to try it baked too! And so glad to know that about grapeseed oil, I will have to give it a try when I run out of olive oil.

I am a “sometimes” do it yourselfer, then sometimes I just get lazy and buy stuff. I have GOTTA get a vitamix, I think it would make life so much easier!

    • March 3, 2011 9:08 am

Vitamixes are soo wonderful! Not a day goes by when I don’t use it for something or other! My grandma actually bought one a long time ago and it just sits on her counter collecting dust! She doesn’t know what to do with it!!

  43. March 3, 2011 12:41 am

I haven’t tried socca yet but I really want to. It looks so good! If I can do it myself I will. Things usually end up cheaper that way. Like making oat flour and stuff.

    • March 3, 2011 9:06 am

Yes! I always make my own oat flour, why buy it?? 🙂

  44. March 3, 2011 7:24 am

Oh wow! There are so many great things about this post! Love it!

Collard wraps and socca pizza…yum! Plus your pizza looks like a cheesy masterpiece!

Nice work on the Chobani score! I haven’t had any of the new flavors, but everyone in blogworld is raving about the lemon!

I’m a bit of a DIYer…especially when it comes to fixing things around the house. I guess I take after my dad, why pay someone to do something you can do yourself? If I don’t know how to do something, I just Google it! Yeah, Google and I are pretty tight! 😉

LOVE the skirt! What an interesting job! It would be so cool to see how different the artists’s perspectives are!

    • March 3, 2011 9:05 am

      Thanks Heather! 🙂

Yes, the artist’s each have their own way of viewing and painting the pose, it’s very very cool.

  45. March 3, 2011 5:21 pm

    thanks for visiting my blog!
hmmm i should give grapeseed oil a try

  46. March 4, 2011 12:52 am

  47. March 4, 2011 10:43 am

thats awesome your mom is a chobani monster! When I was home visiting my mom last week, I noticed a chobani in the fridge, and asked her if she likes it, she said she never tried it but just bought it, Im hoping she does like it! Its def better than regular yogurt!

So cool your a portrait model, but I bet that can be boring sitting for so long : p very cool though! xoxo

  48. March 4, 2011 11:45 am

I’ve never tried Socca OR collard green wraps and both of them sound/look delicious. I’ll have to give this a go!!

  49. March 4, 2011 8:34 pm
