It’s crazy that I’ve never had old-fashioned rolled oats before today.

We always buy instant because, well, it’s instant.

And with 7 busy family members, we’re always looking for quick meals.

Instant microwaveable meals.

Quick oats actually have the same nutrition content as old-fashioned, they’ve just been cut down smaller so that they cook quicker.

I finally persuaded my mom to buy old-fashioned oats because I wanted to try the “real deal”.

I was so excited to try rolled oats for breakfast and I followed Kath’s Video Tutorial For Making Oatmeal.

Her method produced the yummiest oatmeal I have ever had. I wish I would have found her video a long time ago!

I have been making oatmeal “wrong” all this time!

That bowl was actually my mom’s. I had mine OIAJ style.

Topped with shredded coconut and my favorite preserve ever.

Blueberry preserves, how I love thee. Where hast thou been all my life?

So basically, if you’re looking to make the yummiest bowl of oats ever, please do exactly what Kath does.

And don’t forget to eat it with blueberry preserves and Artisana cashew butter! Heaven.

Organic baby carrots and peanut butter.

My all-time favorite snack.

Out of all the food blogs I read, I have never ever heard of anyone else dipping carrots in peanut butter!

I find this completely outrageous!!

Please fix this dilemma right now. πŸ™‚

Oh and I need your help. I just bought an acorn squash and I have no idea how to prepare it/what to eat it with.

How do you eat acorn squash?

    I love old fashioned oats! Your’s look so fluffy and delicious. I think I need to watch her tutorial.

    I think anything dipped in peanut butter is good! πŸ™‚

    I LOVE oatmeal. I like mine with natural peanut butter and maple syrup. Or pumpkin. Or with pecans. Pretty much any way. And, I also eat carrots and peanut butter. Delicioso!

    I always dip my carrots in nut butter! Almond butter is usually my choice! Dilemma fixed? πŸ˜‰

    For acorn squash, I cut it up and then add a little olive oil + spices. Roast it at 425 for about 20 minutes or until it’s browned + soft! Then dip it in Greek yogurt, mustard, or even maple syrup for a little sweetness!

    I eat carrots and almond butter all the time! I can’t believe you’ve never had old fashioned oats before, I seriously live off of them. I like my acorn squash roasted but I’ve also used a recipe from 101 Cookbooks to make it too πŸ™‚

    I’ve never had acorn squash either, so I can’t wait to see how yours turns out! I can’t BELIEVE you were a “rolled oats” virgin!! Haha, aren’t they just the best thing EVER!?! I love kaths method too:) Oh, and I have a million gazillion carrots at my house, so I’m trying your carrot and pb snack tomorrow! Sounds really good, I never would have imagined it!!

    Oats are the BEST!! You should try the voluminous trick, by cooking them with double the amound of liquid over a low heat. Takes AGES but is TOTALLY worth it, trust me!! πŸ˜€

    I love taking the middle out of the acorn squash, stuffing it with yummy things, like cheezy quinoa and then baking it πŸ™‚

    Better late than never right? You’ve inspired me to buy those blueberry preserves. I’ve been curious about them for a while!

    I just had the SAME issue with the acorn squash! I posted about it a few days back. I steamed it and then mixed it with cinnamon and sugar free maple and it was AMAZING! I also had that the next day and mixed it with greek yogurt which was even better! It’s a quick and easy way to prepare it.

    I’ve never made acorn squash! But I think its similar to regular isn’t it? You could make a vegetarian black bean and acorn squash enchilada?
    I have never heard of the carrots and PB – If i try it and become addicted and eat overloads of peanut butter you’re to blame πŸ™‚

    I hadn’t had rolled oats until a few months ago – I usually cook the steel-cut version πŸ™‚
    Carrots and PB sound delicious!! I’ve had steamed carrots and PB, but never raw (yet…… πŸ˜‰ )
    I like acorn squash either baked and then seasoned with some maple syrup and/or cinnamon or stuffed with some kind of grain mixture! πŸ™‚

    Oh my goodness! That’s amazing you’ve never had old fashioned before. πŸ˜› Actually, I know some others who usually buy quick too..but good to hear you gave them a try! Quick and rolled do have the same nutritionals, but the fact quick are “more processed” in the fact they’re smaller..they actually digest much quicker. They don’t keep me nearly as full as old fashioned do but they’re good for the fast facter.

    I love old fashioned oats, it’s great that you finally got to try them. πŸ™‚ I don’t think I would have ever thought to dip carrots in nut butter, I’m more of a veggie and hummus kind of girl. But now I actually kinda want to try it out! I love baking acorn squash with cinnamon and a bit of maple syrup. Although I have stuffed it with more savory things like vegetables, which tastes great too.

    I find the taste of instant oats to be gross, old fashioned are better. The best oats however, are steel cut oats, in my opinion. ha.

    I’ve dipped my carrots in almond butter many times, but peanut butter I have never tried. I guess I must now πŸ™‚

    It’s so funny that you say that about carrots and peanut butter! I actually have been LOVING that combo my entire life, but every time I bring it to school or eat it around friends or something they make fun of me (because they’ve never heard of it!) and it’s so delicious! I LOVE IT!

    Have you ever had a peanut butter and carrot sandwich? Just mix about 5 grated baby carrots with 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter, add cinnamon/salt if you want, and pile in between two slices of your favorite bread! It’s so good, you should try it! (it’s ESPECIALLY good when washed down with a giant glass of chocolate almond milk!)

      Oh my gosh, girl! That sounds amazing, I will definitely be trying that! I’ve also always wanted to make carrot and peanut butter muffins or something, but I’m afraid they just won’t turn out!! But if they did turn out, wouldn’t that be the best recipe?!? πŸ™‚

    I’ve had acorn squash and I just boil it and then add some garlic salt and i cant believe its not butter πŸ™‚ Comes out amazing! And the only way i make oats is the Kath way πŸ˜‰ I don’t use milk just to spare some calories but the nanner really does the trick!

    I totally eat instant oats too. I buy the huge box from Costco, so I always have them! I’ve been meaning to buy rolled oats so I can try Kath’s recipe, but haven’t got around to it. I think you’ve sold me!

    I love making my oatmeal the way Kath does!
    When I have acorn squash I usually just bake it in the oven with some maple syrup and/or brown sugar and cinnamon. It is so delicious

    Ahh, Kath got me started on oats too! Soooooo much better than microwaved oats!!

    I LOVE blueberry preserves, though fig is still my all time fave!

    Oh man, I eat carrots and pb ALL the time! It’s even better with raisins.

    Sorry about the bread recipe! We ALWAYS underbake ours, so maybe that’s just what I love so much. But yeah, it is super time consuming. If yours is even better and it takes less time, maybe I’ll have to give it a shot! Next time I make bread, I’ll make your recipe. πŸ™‚

      It’s JIF Natural. I usually eat Smucker’s Natural because the only ingredients are peanuts and salt.

    YUM– for acorn squash, cut it in half, drizzle olive oil and honey, and then sprinkle salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cumin and chili powder… then roast til soft… sounds like a weird combo, but the sweet & savory is SO GOOD!

    Meghan from meals and miles dips carrots in AB…she dips ANYTHING in ab!
    And as for acorn squash, I like to cit it in half and then fill it with a yummy bean/rice/cheese/sauce mixture and bake it that way! Stuffed squash!
